Thus, Extreme Tarzan was born, err, drawn. Burroughs envisioned a jungle superboy who didn¿t just swing from vines, he surfed down tree limbs, skated across the underbrush and dove from steep cliffs- a character that could only be realized in animation. They found the answer by turning to the original source material: Edgar Rice Burroughs¿ classic story. The Movie For producer Bonnie Arnold and co-directors Kevin Lima and Chris Buck, the main question they had to answer was how to make this Tarzan distinct from all the others. That talent and vision is on full display in this superb Collectors Edition DVD.
So it¿s a good thing someone had the sense to hire filmmakers with sharp talent and unique vision. When Disney set out to make an animated version of the Tarzan legend, it was perceived by many as "a truly bad idea." There had already been 47 previous adaptations of Tarzan- what more could be said about the ape-man with the famous yell and the even more famous loincloth? On top of that, Disney had already produced two outstanding jungle-themed films, The Jungle Book and The Lion King.
